Chinmaya Mission Boston provides an outstanding venue for teachers in the greater Boston area to instruct children and adults in classical Indian music and dance. Whether it is music, dance or drama, these fine arts serve as a motivating resource for children and youth to develop their talents in the service of something greater than themselves. While the public at large benefits from uplifting musical performances and grand theatrical productions, the true beneficiaries are the children of the community who get the opportunity to learn the ancient art of Indian classical music and dance and evolve both culturally and spiritually.

Durga Krishnan is a graduate of Carnatic Music College of India with a degree and Teacher's certificate in Carnatic music. She has been teaching and promoting Carnatic music in the Boston area for the last 3 decades. She is also one of the primary disciples of the legendary veena artist the late Dr. Chittibabu. She is co-ordinator for the Chinmaya Mission Cultural activities.

Prakruti is trained in the classical Dhandayudha Pani Pillai style of Bharathanatyam by her Gurus, Charu Narasimhan and the legendary Kalanidhi Narayanan.  Prakruti has given performances in India, France, England and the US.  Professional Dance critics have praised her dance performances as “beautiful, complex and technically excellent”.   Prakruti has also performed in fundraising events for Ekal Vidyalaya, HSP, Nele India and SSVT among others.   She also conducts lecture workshops on Bharathanatyam aesthetics.  She is dedicated to passing on the traditional dance form to her students. Mari Shakthi Muthuswamy received extensive training in the art Bharatanatyam from Guru Sri Kalaimamani S.K.Kameswaran & Smt. Saroja Kameswaran in Chennai, India. Mari has performed in several temple festivals and won many prizes in Classical dance competitions both in India and in the US. Mari is the artistic director of Anvita Natyalaya and has been teaching Bharatanatyam for the past 4 years in North Andover, MA. She has the passion and is enthusiastic in passing along this great art form to other dance aficionados in the New England area. Now, she is part of the Chinmaya Cultural group and teaching Bharatanatyam at Chinmaya Mission in Andover, MA. Mari is an Electrical Engineer by profession and currently lives in Newton, MA.

Bharathanatyam - Sujatha Meyyappan

Sujatha Meyyappan is an acclaimed Bharathanatyam dancer and the artistic director of Kolam Academy of Dance. She is disciple of Guru. Madurai R. Muralidharan, a great composer and choreographer.  She has performed extensively in many prestigious venues in India, US and Canada over the past 20 years and has received many awards and accolades for her outstanding performances. Sujatha is known for her versatile and vibrant dance renditions. Sujatha is a member of Tyngsboro Cultural Council and actively participates in community arts events in and around the New England area. She has been part of many fundraisers for several non-profit organizations. At Kolam Academy of Dance, Sujatha nurtures young budding artists by passing on this great divine art, which she passionately pursues besides her profession in Engineering. She is a passionate dancer, choreographer and an inspirational Guru to all her dear students.
Sujatha has received Excellence awards for being a dedicated dancer, teacher and for spreading the great art of Bharathanatyam from different organizations including IANH and Lokvani e-magazine.

Preeti Chakravarty received her initial training in vocal music in Bhagalpur, Bihar and advanced training from Pandit Vinayakrao Patwardhan, a well-known exponent of the Gwalior Gharana. Mrs. Chakravarty has extensive experience in teaching music and curriculum development. She served as the head of the department of music in a four year college in Bihar and as the chairperson of the curriculum committee for a model music university. She was also a member of the board of examiners in various universities in the state of Bihar, India.

Tabla - Rajesh Puranik**

Rajesh Puranik, a native of Mumbai, immigrated to the US at the age of ten. Rajesh studied with several of Boston's leading tabla teachers, including Nishikant Sonwalkar of LearnQuest, Aditya Kalyanpur and Jerry Leake. Rajesh has also studied with rising young tabla artists Nikhil Phatak and Ganesh Tanwade of Pune, disciples of Pt. Yogest Samsi and Pt. Suresh Talwalkar respectively. Dance - Deepa Srinath

Deepa Srinath is the Artistic Director of Vaibhava Dance School. She teaches in and around the Boston area. Deepa has been trained in Pandanallur Style of Bharatanatyam under Guru Smt. Radha Sridhar, Bangalore. Deepa has received several awards, titles and prizes for her performances, including the Aryabhatta Award, and the title “Sathya Abhinaya Sumdaram” from Bharatanjali Trust, Chennai. Doordarshan, India recognizes Deepa as a Grade “A” artist. Over the past 20 years, Deepa has rendered more than 100 performances – over 50 solo recitals, 10 dance ballets, 40 group performances, and 7 televised shows. She has also choreographed several dance ballets herself (“Krishna Leela”, “Navarasas in Ramayana”, etc.). Painting - Mousumi Santra**
The Paintings themes are landscapes which include mountains, clouds, falls, rivers, lakes, birds, trees etc. and Portraits of human & animals, Architectures & Buildings. The Still Life of fruits & flowers pots & pans etc. are also covered.The classes introduce the students to mediums like charcoal, acrylic & water color, Oil Pastel & Soft Pastel, Oil Painting etc, and teach how to use those.The classes also teach how to prepare the “mixed media” using ‘charcoal & soft pastel’, ‘water color & soft pastel’, ‘acrylic & charcoal’ etc.Students get the hands on experience of different blenders for charcoals and pastel painting. Also they learn how to use sponge, scrubber, tooth brush, Tissue paper, Wrapping paper, needles, different set of paint brushes & duct tapes, leaves & grass etc. for different strokes and techniques. The base used on the classes includes Art paper, Masonite board and Canvas.


Yoga - Sheena Patel
After graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and working on Wall Street, Sheena Patel noticed a need for balence in the Western lifestyle. Savsani was born blending eastern and western techniques for a holistic approach to wellness. Graduated from Aangikam School of Dance, and Sivananda Ashram and founded a Yoga Teacher Training School, Yoga Alliance Certified. Started Stress Management classes at MIT.  Has enjoyed teaching yoga for over a decade at various locations such as HBS, MGH and Equinox. Her goal is to provide nutrition, yoga and stress management classes to more of the Indian community. Sheena can be reached at

Creative Writing Classes - Jyoti Kaushal:
English is as important as any other subject which will help our kids to succeed and feel more independent and smart when trying to explain their ideas and thoughts. Keeping this in mind we are having Creative writing classes held at the Chinmaya Mission in Andover. Creative writing classes for the kids will help them to put their ideas on paper . An 11 week course where the kids learn to discuss, analyse, organise their thoughts and put it in the form of a paragraph or a story.

The class runs for 90mins and it is $180/semester.

Yoga Classes - Vibhu Nagral
Vibhu Nagral, RYT, IAYT, has been a practicing Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and Patient Counselor for over 15 years. She began her Yoga journey as a teenager, training in multiple styles of Yoga, including Shivananda, Bihar and Iyengar Yoga. Smitha Vauuavur is a yoga instructor. She began practicing yoga from past many years with  passion and dedication. She teaches alignment based on Hatha, Vinyasa and Power yoga. Her classes are tailored to meet your specific and individual needs, which will help to increase muscle strength and tone, maintain a balanced metabolism, improve cardio and circulatory health, improve respiration, energy, vitality, weight loss and more.
